This method was used in the heyday of seafaring so that the barrels in the belly of the ship could withstand the harsh weather conditions at sea. The range fills a gap in the Signatory range. The 12-year-old Ardmore Vintage 100 Proof Edition #21 matured in second fill bourbon barrels previously used at an iconic distillery on Islay and was bottled at 57.1% vol. without the addition of colour and without chill-filtering.
